This week on the Winging It Travel Podcast, I’m sharing a relaxing but adventure-packed Easter weekend getaway in Kelowna and Osoyoos, located in the heart of British Columbia’s stunning Okanagan Valley. If you’re dreaming about a scenic road trip filled with vineyard views, coffee shop gems, and meaningful cultural experiences, this episode is for you.
We based ourselves in downtown Kelowna, staying at the centrally located Royal Anne Hotel, and explored everything from lakeside trails to vibrant cafes and local eateries. Then we hit the road to visit Vernon, the desert-like town of Osoyoos, and the powerful and educational Nk’Mip Desert Cultural Centre, where I share my honest reflections about Canada’s colonial history and the importance of Indigenous learning spaces.
From sipping wine at Frind Winery next to the beach, to an epic brunch at Eatology, to sipping third-wave espresso at Slow Side Coffee, this weekend was the perfect mix of downtime and discovery. I also dive into travel costs, local transport tips, and why Kelowna might just be your next affordable getaway from Vancouver.
Here’s what you’ll discover in this episode:
• 🧳 How to spend 4 days in Kelowna without breaking the bank
• ☕ Where to find the best coffee in Kelowna
• 🍷 A must-visit beachfront winery in West Kelowna
• 🍽️ My top food spots: from Vietnamese banh mi to fine Indian cuisine
• 🏞️ The Okanagan Region is one of Canada’s sunniest destinations
• 🎓 An honest take on the Nk’Mip Desert Cultural Centre and its powerful Indigenous education
• 🚗 How to plan a mini road trip through the Okanagan with a cheap rental car
• 🌅 Scenic walking routes along Okanagan Lake and Tugboat Beach
• 💡 Tips for booking travel during holidays like Easter
If you’re considering a short break within BC, this episode shows why Kelowna and Osoyoos offer the perfect mix of relaxation, culture, and natural beauty. I’ll also touch on how this trip made me reconsider future moves—Kelowna might just be a contender!

On today’s Destination Special we’re joined by a truly extraordinary guest—someone who’s not only a trailblazer in the music industry but also a passionate traveller with a love for extraordinary adventures. She’s a singer, songwriter, actress, and cultural icon whose music has been the soundtrack to so many of our lives. Yes, Lily Allen is here on The Travel Diaries!
Lily’s debut album, Alright, Still, launched her to global stardom, and since then, she’s won BRIT Awards, Ivor Novellos, and devoted fans worldwide. But what you might not know is that Lily is also an avid traveller, and her recent trip to British Columbia is one of her most unforgettable yet.
British Columbia is Canada’s westernmost province, a land of extraordinary natural beauty where dramatic coastlines meet ancient cedar forests, and snow-capped peaks plunge into pristine fjords. It’s a destination that feels alive with adventure and wonder. Getting there from the UK couldn’t be easier—just hop on a direct flight to Vancouver. Vancouver itself is surrounded by ocean and mountains, making it one of the most picturesque city settings in the world—and certainly one of my favourites.
From Vancouver, the possibilities are endless. You can take a floatplane to a remote coastal lodge, drive along the breathtaking Sea-to-Sky Highway, or catch a ferry to Vancouver Island. Whether you're exploring the city’s cultural gems or heading into the wild for close encounters with nature, BC offers something for every kind of traveller.
In this episode, Lily takes us along for her unforgettable journey through BC. We’ll hear about her encounters with humpback whales, bears, and orcas. and how the restorative power of its nature left her mind at peace and her heart full - Lily calls it one of the most special experiences of her life, and you’ll soon understand why.

This is an immersive audio episode about my 20 km return hike to Garibaldi Lake over one night and two days. I share my experience hiking up with forest sounds and hiking poles, my reaction to the fantastic views of Garibaldi Lake, and the ups and downs of camp life. The elevation was 900m from the parking lot, with most of the elevation occurring in the first 6km of the hike towards the campground and vice versa back down the next day.
Along the way, I collected sounds, spoke into the camera for a real-life reaction, and had a fantastic coffee product to share. I combined these with post-hike responses to give you the sense you were there with me on the hike. In this episode, we embark on an unforgettable journey along the stunning Garibaldi Lake Trail in British Columbia. Join me as I hike through dense forests, across scenic meadows, and up to the breathtaking Garibaldi Lake with crystal-clear turquoise waters.
Along the way, I’ll share tips for tackling this challenging yet rewarding trail. We’ll set up camp at the beautiful Garibaldi Lake Campground for an overnight wilderness adventure. Canada is one of the best places in the world for lake views, and this one is no different. This is a true hiking adventure in Canada and one very close to my home city of Vancouver, just over an hour's drive away. This is a must when visiting the area!
I am excited to share this new type of episode with you; let me know what you think. I hope it provides you with that travel experience and valuable hiking tips for Garibaldi Lake.

Mat and Ali both found themselves living in British Columbia, enjoying the outdoors in every which way. Ali was a seasoned mountain biker when she met Mat and learned about his passion for bike travel. It wasn't long before she caught the proverbial bug and joined him on a cross-Canada adventure. Last year while taking on the Eastern Divide Trail, they joked about riding the Great Northern Bikepacking Route, the longest point to point bikepacking route in the world, coming in at just under 15000km. Less than a year later, here they are, preparing to take on their longest and grandest adventure yet. I should warn you that there was some clicking sounds coming through in the recording and that we had to re-record the second half of the interview in order to get it done right. Thanks again for your time.

But it wasn't always this way. Kevin Smith, a boat captain who grew up in British Columbia and now owns and operates Maple Leaf Adventures, was instrumental in helping turn the local economy from extraction (logging) to tourism. Since then, he's guided thousands of travelers through the wilds of the rainforest and helped build relationships with the Coastal First Nations who have lived there for thousands of years and now steward the land. During the pandemic, he also helmed the largest coastal cleanup ever embarked upon, which is part of his mission to only participate in regenerative tourism.
Don't miss these moments!
